JEC NZ Smart Money Challenge Competition Rules & Information


How to Enter

  1. Choose one concept from the approved list below.

  2. Film a one-minute video explaining it clearly and creatively.

  3. Submit your video through the submission form on the JEC NZ website before 19 July 2025.

Approved Financial Literacy Concepts

Participants must choose exactly ONE of the following ten concepts:

  1. Compound Interest

  2. Inflation

  3. Supply and Demand

  4. Risk vs Return

  5. Diversification

  6. Budgeting (Needs vs Wants)

  7. Opportunity Cost

  8. Externalities (Positive & Negative)

  9. Sustainable Business Model / Circular Economy

  10. ESG Investing

Eligibility

  • Open to all New Zealand students in Years 1–13.

  • Entry is free.

  • Each student may submit one entry only.

  • Submissions must be original work by the entrant.

  • By entering, participants consent to JEC NZ reposting or featuring their video.

The Rules

  • Videos must be no longer than 60 seconds.

  • You must explain one concept from the approved list — no mixing or combining topics.

  • Your video must be your own original work. AI-generated videos are not permitted, though you're welcome to use editing tools and effects.

  • Your explanation must be accurate — creativity is encouraged, but not at the expense of getting the facts right.

  • Videos must be appropriate for all ages and free from offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content.

What to Submit

When submitting, you will need to provide your full name, school name, year level, email address, your chosen finance concept, and your one-minute video. You will also need to confirm that the work is your own and consent to JEC NZ reposting or featuring your entry.
